We provide animal lovers the guidance and direction necessary to giving farm animals in need of placement, the chance to live full and happy lives, in loving homes.
Providing education with hands- on experience is one of the added benefits to our farm
families... we call FARM-ILYS!
Many residences in county areas zoned for hooved animals are unaware of the benefits to having these wonderful animals as family pets (aka: small farm-ilys). There are a wide range of animals that become displaces, discarded, neglected or abused, even though they have lots of life left, and are in dire need of loving homes.
For example: Horses that are no longer rideable can serve as beautiful pastor pets, and in addition to being fed proper hay and grain, can graze on property serving as added vegetation control. Barn cats are great for natural pesticide-free rodent control. Additional "traffic" on properties from hooved animals, such as horses, cows, pigs and goats are a deterrent for snakes, which provide an added layer of protection in keeping residents and other animals safe.
It is our mission to guide and educate families in the county areas to the benefits of providing animals in need of a second chance for a good life. The Hearts and Hooves Haven will serve as an example of how the small farm-ily life can benefit both residents and animals. We are growing with the intent of offering temporary safe shelter and care facility for animals to reside prior to being placed in new loving homes.
About ten years ago we moved to a beautiful area in the county. We loved it, but were unaware of the dangers of snakes. Unfortunately, our family experienced firsthand the heartbreak of losing a sweet family dog to a rattlesnake bite. That pushed us to do some research, and learned that hooved animals on the property can serve as a deterrent for snakes. One goat later, we quickly learned that the county requires you to have two goats, because they can be lonely and loud as they are herd animals and need companionship. One goat led to two, then three. Then a rescued miniature horse, a pony, a full-sized horse (that was no longer rideable), a pig, and then another pig. Having learned a lot the hard way, we continued to educate ourselves. We discovered the benefits of housing feral barn cats, for the dual purpose of giving them a home and rodent control.
We realized we were saving money on clearing the property of vegetation because the animals were doing it automatically. It is my utmost desire to educate and help families avoid some of the mistakes made while getting to their own farm-ily. We are blessed with happy farm animals. We cannot keep all animals in need of homes (even though we would love to), but we can help guide and educate others and offer a safe haven of transition for beautiful animals needing placement.
We make sure all our animals are provided with the best care! Some of our rescues have specific medical needs, especially our eldest and biggest horse, Zena as she ages with a small broken bone in her ankle. Comfort and quality of life is always our priority! Your dollars will help!
Our farm-ily has outgrown their tack/feed shed! The current shed has roof damage and is no longer waterproof. Your generous donations help us get a new proper sized, watertight shed for their feed and supplies!
Our BIGGEST endeavor yet is to raise funds for a proper BARN STRUCTURE.
Our dream is to have a large enough Barn to house the Farm-ily, and quarantine shelters to enable us to foster farm animals in need while transitioning to their new forever homes.
